Angel Reese Elbow Controversy: WNBA Finals Game 1 [Confirmed]

Angel Reese ignited heated controversy during Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Finals on October 17 after catching Valkyries forward Gabby Williams with a heavy elbow to the face during a contested loose-ball scramble, as the Atlanta Dream fell 64-68. According to verified reports from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, the incident occurred midway through the third quarter as both athletes battled intensely on the floor. Video replays circulated rapidly across social media platforms, showing Reese's elbow making direct impact with Williams' jaw. Officials allowed play to continue without issuing a flagrant foul review, drawing immediate fury from spectators who branded Reese the 'Draymond Green of the WNBA.' Williams remained shaken on the hardwood before returning to finish the contest, but the non-call proved pivotal in shifting momentum. The Valkyries exploited the resulting transitional chaos, locking down key possessions to secure the series-opening victory.
