Ubisoft Germany Layoffs: 100 Jobs Cut Across Studios [Confirmed]

Ubisoft is initiating a restructuring plan targeting approximately 100 job cuts across its German video game development studios in Düsseldorf, Berlin, and Mainz through voluntary departure packages, as European development studios continue to recalibrate operational headcounts and production expenditures in early 2026. According to verified reports from Insider Gaming, the reduction program relies on mutual separation agreements rather than unilateral terminations, giving staff across all three German branches an opportunity to accept negotiated severances. The German branch, renowned for spearheading the Anno franchise and co-developing major flagship properties including Far Cry, Rainbow Six, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, employs hundreds of senior engineers and game designers. Internal notices indicate that management is streamlining production overhead to protect core portfolio deliverables after financial turbulence prompted broader structural realignments across multinational gaming corporations. While Ubisoft insists that key production milestones remain intact, union representatives and developer collectives are evaluating the proposal to verify severance packages align with German labor protections. This initiative follows global publisher downsizings, highlighting ongoing production contractions across Western gaming hubs.
