PS6 Price Leak: Console Memory Alone Reportedly Costs $680 [Leak]

Sony Interactive Entertainment is confronting unprecedented hardware manufacturing costs for the upcoming PlayStation 6, as newly surfaced supply chain leaks from reputable insider Kepler_L2 reveal that high-speed RAM and NAND flash storage components alone exceed $680 per unit in late 2026. According to verified reports from Eurogamer, the hardware leak posted on NeoGAF highlights severe price inflation across the global semiconductor sector. Kepler_L2 previously projected the console's bill of materials at $760, but revised the total manufacturing footprint upward toward $1,000 due to AI datacenter demand and component shortages. This projection aligns with comments from Sony Interactive Entertainment executive Hideaki Nishino, who cautioned shareholders that the corporation refuses to sell future hardware platforms at steep financial losses. With disc drives expected to be phased out entirely by 2028, Sony is leaning heavily into an all-digital distribution strategy. Similar to tech disruptions chronicled across [Steam Next Fest 2026: Demos Double as AI Slop Surges [Confirmed]](/news/steam-next-fest-2026-demo-surge), infrastructure expenses are transforming traditional product lifecycles. Analysts anticipate Sony will either push the PS6 launch deeper into 2028 or release a high-tier digital edition priced far above traditional home console standards.
