Valor Mortis Review: Napoleonic Action Game [Confirmed]

According to verified reports from Game Informer published on October 13, 2026, developer One More Level and publisher Lyrical Games released Valor Mortis, a daring first-person Soulslike set within a nightmarish 18th-century Napoleonic France for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Following their acclaimed work on the Ghostrunner series, One More Level ventures into historical dark fantasy. Players step into the boots of William, a standard soldier in Napoleon's grand army who retains consciousness after death through supernatural mechanics. This premise fuels a tense loop of trying, dying, and adapting against overwhelming odds. Reviewers note that while the title inherits the fluid movement sensibilities of Ghostrunner, its early-game balance suffers from punishing difficulty spikes and predictable narrative beats that fail to capitalize fully on its provocative setting. Nevertheless, the combat mechanics remain exceptionally sharp, offering a visceral playground for action enthusiasts seeking fresh challenges outside traditional swords-and-sorcery franchises.
