PUBG Free-to-Play Release Date Officially Confirmed [Update]

Krafton officially announced that PUBG: Battlegrounds is transitioning into a permanent free-to-play model on January 12, 2022, across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, removing the original upfront purchase barrier to rival competing battle royale franchises like Warzone and Apex Legends. According to verified reports from Dexerto PUBG, the monumental publishing pivot was revealed on stage during The Game Awards, marking the biggest structural evolution for the genre-defining shooter since its early-access debut in 2017. To maintain competitive integrity, Krafton is bifurcating the user experience with Battlegrounds Plus, a one-time $12.99 account upgrade required for ranked matches, custom servers, and bonus Survival Mastery progression. Existing premium players who purchased the game prior to the transition will automatically receive the PUBG Special Commemorative Pack, unlocking automatic Plus status, the Captain's Camo cosmetic bundle, and an exclusive shackle plate pan.
