PS5 Voice Chat Update: How to See Who Is Talking [Full Guide]

Sony Interactive Entertainment officially deployed an on-screen voice chat speaker indicator in PlayStation 5 system software update 26.06-14.00.00, enabling console gamers to instantly see active speaker names across standard PS5 and PS5 Pro party sessions without opening dashboard menus. According to verified reports from Engadget, the long-requested feature resolves a major quality-of-life pain point for party chats, allowing players to customize exactly where speaker tags appear on their displays. While earlier iterations underwent limited testing, the September 2026 firmware deployment officially establishes the native overlay across all hardware revisions. To activate the setting, users open the Control Center via the PlayStation button, navigate to Game Base, access their active Voice Chat card, click the three-dot More menu, and toggle on Display Names under the Display Who's Speaking submenu. Alongside enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling defaults on PS5 Pro, the party UI update ensures minimal screen obstruction during heavy multiplayer sessions.
