The Story
As originally reported by TalkEsport, Pacific powerhouse Paper Rex suffered an agonizing elimination from Valorant Champions Shanghai on October 9, 2026, falling 2-1 to T1 in Lower Bracket Round 1. After dropping Lotus 13-7 and securing Ascent 13-6, Paper Rex squandered a 9-3 halftime advantage on the decisive map, Summit, eventually conceding 13-11. This defeat sealed a 7th-8th place finish, ironically completing one of the most bizarre statistical achievements in VCT history. First highlighted by community analyst asakanakasa on Reddit, Paper Rex have now recorded every single placement bracket in international Valorant history, ranging from trophy-winning 1st place finishes down to 17th-32nd exits. Due to Riot Games' complex 12-team Masters and 16-team Champions formats, replicating this full spectrum of finishes is nearly impossible for competitors. Much like structural realignments seen when , PRX's early departure disrupts competitive expectations while broader market dynamics align with . Crucially, with four starting contracts expiring post-tournament, this elimination signals a major inflection point for the iconic Pacific roster.
Strategic & Competitive Analysis
How this development impacts competitive gameplay, professional metas, and community markets.
Tactically, Paper Rex’s breakdown on Summit exposes underlying flaws in their hyper-aggressive defensive setups when facing disciplined retakes. T1 exploited PRX’s over-extension during late-round executions, neutralizing their duel-centric tempo and punishing weak mid-control rotations. The failure to close out a 9-3 lead highlights persistent shot-calling rigidity during high-pressure match points. Moving into the upcoming VCT off-season, PRX face severe roster instability with four core starters reaching contract termination. Rebuilding team synergy around a single anchor will require re-evaluating their map pool strategies, particularly on non-traditional maps like Summit. Qualification odds for the next international circuit heavily depend on whether management can re-sign key talent or pivot toward fresh Pacific talent to restore their signature playstyle.
