Legend of California Delayed to 2027: Jeff Kaplan [Confirmed]

Former Overwatch lead designers Jeff Kaplan and Tim Ford have officially delayed the Steam Early Access release of their highly anticipated survival game, The Legend of California, from its initial 2026 target window into 2027 to overhaul foundational world systems and multiplayer networking. According to verified reports from Polygon citing an r/pcgaming community AMA, development studio Kintsugiyama decided to extend production time to ensure core mechanical depth matches community expectations. The survival crafting genre remains notoriously unforgiving toward buggy initial rollouts, prompting the veteran leadership team to rebuild emergent survival encounters and optimize persistent server stability. Kaplan emphasized that the independent venture intends to deliver a fully realized creative vision rather than rushing an unpolished alpha build to marketplace shelves. Kintsugiyama plans to host smaller closed technical playtests throughout late 2026 before entering wider Steam public distribution next year.
