Google Messages Settings Overhaul: New UI Leaked [Update 2026]

Google is officially overhauling its Google Messages settings menu in an upcoming 2026 release, replacing the sprawling, disorganized single-list interface with intuitive thematic categories and modern illustrations to give Android users faster control over RCS communications. According to verified reports from Android Authority, an APK teardown of the messaging client reveals that Google is restructuring its confusing settings directory into distinct functional hubs. The revised framework groups previously scattered options into dedicated sections for General, RCS Chats, Notifications, and Advanced features. Rather than forcing users to scroll through dozens of unorganized toggles, individual settings screens now incorporate updated vector graphics and clearer toggle hierarchies. This modernization aligns with recent system upgrades, including [Google Phone Calling Cards: Compact Photo UI [Update 2026]](/news/google-phone-calling-cards-compact-photo), reinforcing Google's push toward a cohesive Material You design language across core communication tools. Additional features discovered in active development alongside the settings rebuild include native RCS video call integration and refined profile privacy controls. Beta testers can expect the redesigned interface to deploy through Google Play Services in subsequent production updates.
