Chelsea Eye Daniel Banjaqui in £38M Transfer Move [Confirmed]

Chelsea are actively targeting 20-year-old Benfica full-back Daniel Banjaqui to reinforce their defensive backline ahead of the upcoming transfer window following captain Reece James undergoing knee surgery in October 2026, which sidelines the defender until next year. According to verified reports from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy opened inquiries into activating Banjaqui's £38 million release clause after medical staff determined James required operative intervention on his persistent knee issue. The setback represents a devastating blow for the Blues, with James now having missed 147 competitive fixtures across all competitions since 2019 due to chronic muscular and joint ailments. Benfica officials are reportedly unwilling to negotiate below the release valuation, holding firm as European elite clubs monitor the Portuguese prodigy.
