The Fortnite Prophecy Meme Explained

In 2021, a joke post captioned 'This will be Fortnite in 2022' pictured four characters standing together: Goku, Darth Vader, Sonic the Hedgehog and Freddy Fazbear. At the time the combination looked absurd, because it mixed anime, film, a classic platforming mascot and a horror icon in one frame. That absurdity was the joke, and it is exactly why the post stuck around long enough to be remembered.

The first half of the joke landed quickly, with Goku and Darth Vader both arriving in Fortnite in 2022. The second half took longer, which made the post feel even stranger as the years passed. Sonic the Hedgehog and Freddy Fazbear then arrived in 2026 during Fortnitemares, completing the set pictured in the original post. A joke that once looked impossible had quietly become a checklist.

Fortnite plans collaborations over years rather than weeks, so a character that seems unreachable in one season can become a realistic addition much later. Licensing conversations, anniversaries and seasonal events all shape timing, and Halloween events in particular have become a home for horror and pop-culture crossovers. When a game keeps expanding its roster for years, old fan jokes have a long runway to catch up with reality.

When a long-awaited character finally arrives, excitement can push players toward risky account deals, especially for skins that have rotated out of the shop. Do not buy an account just for vaulted skins without checking the account live in the game first and using escrow for the deal. A screenshot alone proves nothing, and a rushed purchase is how players lose both money and the account they thought they were buying.
