What Happens When a Game Is Delisted?

When a game is delisted, it is removed from sale on a digital store, so new buyers can no longer purchase it there. Delisting is a store decision, often linked to licences expiring or a newer version replacing an older one. It does not automatically mean the game disappears from every device or that every service stops at once. Each part of the picture, the store page, your owned copy, and online services, can change on a different timeline.

In many cases, players who already own a delisted game can still download and play the parts they bought, especially single-player content. This is not guaranteed everywhere, since store policies differ and some publishers handle older titles differently. The safest step is to check the store page and official announcements for that specific game, rather than assuming every delisted title behaves the same. Keep your purchase records and account details safe, since they prove ownership.

Online services are the least certain part of delisting, since servers, matchmaking, and online modes can close separately from the store listing. A game may stay playable offline long after its online modes end, or online play may continue for a while after delisting. Never trust a random post claiming a server shutdown date unless an official source confirms it. Check official announcements, and enjoy offline content while online features remain available.
