Dark Link Remake Explained

Dark Link is Link's shadow double, a silent mirror image rendered in black with glowing eyes. The character debuted as the final opponent in an early Zelda game, but the version most players remember is the Water Temple mini-boss in Ocarina of Time. That fight became famous because the mirror match feels personal: every swing you throw can be met, parried or turned back on you.

Nintendo showed Dark Link in a short television commercial for the Ocarina of Time remake on Switch 2, ahead of the game's launch. He appears for only a second or so, flipping into the air and landing on Link's sword, recreating one of the best-known moments from the original game. The redesign gives him far more detail than before, including a Hylian Shield that now shows its full crest, plus dark wisps and burning eyes that make him look more menacing.

In the original game, Dark Link waits in a foggy room full of shallow pools inside the Water Temple. The door locks behind you, the room goes dark, and the mirror match begins with no introduction. The remake keeps that idea intact rather than reworking it into something conventional, and the faster combat system should make the duel feel sharper, though new attack patterns remain unconfirmed.

Nintendo has not confirmed which bosses can be fought again in the remake's new Hall of Fallen Foes, the room that lets players rematch defeated bosses against the clock. Only one boss rematch has been shown so far, so whether mini-bosses such as Dark Link appear there is still unknown.
