Xbox COO Helen Chiang Ousted Over Policy Violations [Confirmed]

Xbox Chief Operating Officer Helen Chiang has departed Microsoft following an abrupt termination tied to undisclosed internal policy violations, cutting short her newly appointed tenure overseeing the brand's global financial operations and studio profitability strategy. According to verified reports from GameSpot News, Chiang's sudden departure was confirmed internally via a staff memo distributed by Microsoft executive Asha Sharma. While Microsoft formally declined to comment on individual personnel matters, independent industry reports from Eurogamer and The Verge confirmed that Chiang was dismissed strictly for policy violations rather than standard corporate downsizing. Chiang previously spent years stewarding the multi-billion-dollar Minecraft franchise at Mojang Studios before taking end-to-end command of Xbox hardware, content, and margin sustainability in July. Her exit lands during an aggressive transitional period for Microsoft's gaming division, following developments like the [Xbox Game Pass T-Mobile Deal: Ultimate Plan Arrives [Confirmed]](/news/xbox-game-pass-t-mobile-deal) and ongoing fallout after the [Xbox IP Netflix Deal: $500M Offer Rejected [Confirmed]](/news/xbox-ip-netflix-deal-rejected). With Microsoft recalibrating hardware investments and software delivery, Chiang’s vacancy creates unexpected friction at the executive summit.
