Total War Shogun 2 Pulled From Steam Over AI Backlash [Confirmed]

Sega and developer Creative Assembly officially delisted Total War Shogun 2 Complete Edition from Steam on October 13 following fierce gamer backlash over glitched AI-upscaled artwork, immediately restoring the original 2011 retail release to digital storefronts worldwide. According to verified reports from GameSpot News, the upgraded package was advertised as a substantial visual overhaul for the iconic tactical strategy title. However, active players quickly uncovered horrifying graphical distortions, including deformed samurai portraits, extra fingers on character models, and clan leader faces bizarrely melting into their helmet armor. While Sega acknowledged that the release fell short of quality standards in an official statement, the publisher completely sidestepped addressing the controversial reliance on unrefined generative AI filters. Longtime fans had vented widespread frustration across social media channels, highlighting how amateurish machine upscaling degraded the authentic Feudal Japanese aesthetic that originally defined the franchise. By reverting store listings back to the untainted 2011 build, Creative Assembly temporarily placated community outrage, though competitive ladder participants still await word on whether long-promised multiplayer netcode improvements and widescreen UI patches will ever see official implementation.
