Total War: Shogun 2 Remaster Pulled Over AI [Confirmed]

Sega and Creative Assembly officially pulled the remastered Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition from Steam this week after intense player backlash erupted over severe performance bugs, broken multiplayer lobbies, and controversial generative AI artwork integrated by an unnamed external co-developer. According to verified reports from Rock Paper Shotgun, Total War vice president Roger Collum issued a public apology to clarify that the release was not developed internally by Creative Assembly's core UK team, but rather handled entirely by an outsourced third-party studio. Collum emphasized that while Creative Assembly utilizes machine learning tools internally strictly for code analysis, data debugging, and rapid backend prototyping, the studio maintains an explicit ban on shipping generative AI in consumer-facing art or audio assets. Similar to industry controversies like when [Battlefield 6 Mass Effect Content Pulled [Confirmed]](/news/battlefield-6-mass-effect-pulled) occurred due to branding complications, Sega acted swiftly to protect franchise prestige. Steam users who purchased the updated bundle reported corrupted legacy saves and visual anomalies across historical unit cards. Creative Assembly has temporarily rolled back all digital storefront listings to the stable 2011 base build, confirming full refunds for affected players while the publisher audits quality control protocols.
