The Sims 5 Project Evergreen Replaces Rene [Confirmed]

Electronic Arts and developer Maxis have officially redirected internal development resources toward an unannounced single-player experience codenamed Project Evergreen in October 2026, effectively pivoting away from the multiplayer-heavy, free-to-play structure originally planned under Project Rene to preserve core simulation design. According to verified reports from Kotaku, internal turbulence has upended EA's flagship life-simulation pipeline following leaked playtest feedback and shifting executive priorities. Originally introduced as the natural successor to The Sims 4, Project Rene—also referenced under the Project Lotus banner—gradually drifted toward a mobile-centric framework featuring lightweight social spaces and mini-games reminiscent of Roblox experiences like Dress to Impress. Core players expressed severe dissatisfaction over microtransaction-heavy architectures and compromised sandbox depth, prompting studio leads to recalibrate. Sims Community insiders confirm that Project Evergreen represents the evolution of Project X, a dedicated single-player installment engineered to satisfy veteran simulation enthusiasts. Much like the creative authenticity defended in the [Machinarium AI Tribute Slapped Down By Developer [Confirmed]](/news/amanita-design-slams-machinarium-ai-slop) controversy, community members are demanding robust offline mechanics over trend-chasing live services.
