The Onion Voting Simulator 3D Released on Steam [Confirmed]

According to verified reports from Polygon, satirical publication The Onion released its very first video game, The Onion Voting Simulator 3D, as a free title on Steam just in time for the November 3 midterm elections. Ahead of the Steam launch, head writer Mike Gillis detailed the project's origins, noting that the lo-fi experience heavily borrows stylistic cues from legendary PC classics like Chex Quest. Designed to gleefully lampoon American democracy and the publication's former owners, the title offers a unique window into political satire within modern interactive media. While critics note the project lacks high-budget polish, it symbolizes a rejuvenated era of creative freedom for the satirical staff. Industry analysts emphasize that unexpected releases like this demonstrate how media brands can successfully diversify into indie gaming spaces. Fans looking for deeper nostalgic dives can also explore retro milestones like the [Ecstatica Survival Horror: The Ellipsoid Tech Classic [Review]](/news/ecstatica-pioneering-survival-horror-ellipsoid-graphics) to appreciate how primitive aesthetics continue influencing modern indie development. Gillis expressed immense enthusiasm for future digital experiments, confirming that sharp political commentary will remain a core pillar of their upcoming interactive ventures throughout 2026.
