Street Fighter Movie KO'd by Mortal Kombat 2 Reviews [Confirmed]

According to verified reports from Insider Gaming, Warner Bros. Pictures' Mortal Kombat 2 has officially outperformed Legendary Entertainment's Street Fighter movie reboot across global review aggregates in early 2026, securing dominant theatrical ratings behind superior fight choreography and faithful gaming lore adaptation. Insider Gaming reported that Mortal Kombat 2 secured an 82% critical approval rating, easily eclipsing Street Fighter's sluggish 54% scoreline. Critics praised Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage performance, brutal R-rated fatalities, and authentic NetherRealm tournament set pieces, whereas Street Fighter faced heavy scrutiny for pacing bottlenecks and uneven character focus. The cultural clash mirrors broader entertainment transformations, much like how superhero and fantasy narratives evolved in features like the [Smallville 25th Anniversary: DC Sci-Fi Legacy [Update 2026]](/news/smallville-25th-anniversary-dc-legacy) retrospective. Both studios invested over $150 million into these live-action video game adaptations, targeting passionate fighting game communities ahead of major international competitive circuits. Capcom and Warner Bros. Discovery intended to leverage these theatrical releases to stimulate active player engagement across consoles and PC storefronts. While Mortal Kombat 2 achieved immediate critical acclaim, industry analysts emphasize that Street Fighter’s international box office momentum in Asian territories could narrow the revenue divide over the coming spring release window.
