Steam Frame Kernel Update Adds CD-ROM Support [Confirmed]

Valve has rapidly updated the Steam Frame headset kernel to include external CD-ROM and DVD drive compatibility just twenty-four hours after a dedicated community member formally requested optical media support to play classic 2006 PC abandonware. According to verified reports from Rock Paper Shotgun, the breakthrough occurred after user Aiodensghost posted an earnest plea on community channels explaining that the headset's lack of native disc drivers completely blocked him from installing physical legacy games like Need for Speed Carbon, which is no longer sold on digital storefronts due to licensing expirations. Valve engineers responded overnight, pushing a kernel patch that equips the hybrid VR and flat-gaming headset with the necessary file system drivers to read external optical hardware. This move highlights Valve's unmatched responsiveness to grassroots user feedback, contrasting sharply with traditional publisher copyright policies. Furthermore, this update arrives amidst wider industry discussions regarding digital ephemera and the long-term preservation of physical media ownership in gaming.
