RuneScape Reignited Cancelled by Jagex Amid Backlash [Confirmed]

Jagex has officially cancelled RuneScape Reignited just weeks after its reveal, shelving the planned new fresh-start character mode and separated market economy following overwhelming community resistance from veteran MMO players who feared community fracturing. According to verified reports from Rock Paper Shotgun, the UK-based studio scrapped the initiative after player sentiment soured over attempts to build an alternate progression track alongside the existing main game. Originally unveiled alongside preliminary details for the upcoming RuneScape 4 project, Reignited sought to attract newcomers through isolated fresh-economy servers where everyone started from ground zero. However, legacy players argued that splitting the Grand Exchange liquidity and fragmenting active clan populations would severely damage long-term guild health. Much like the community revolts seen in [Battlefield 6 AI Content Backlash: Season 5 Pass Slammed [Confirmed]](/news/battlefield-6-ai-content-backlash), player advocacy forced the leadership team to pivot swiftly. Jagex acknowledged the critical feedback, admitting that diverting core developer bandwidth away from primary game maintenance into a secondary mode undermined trust. Studio representatives affirmed that all development resources previously earmarked for Reignited will now funnel back directly into legacy live-ops, upcoming raid encounters, and foundational technical work for the franchise's next chapter.
