RuneScape Reignited Cancelled: Jagex Shelves Project [Confirmed]

British developer Jagex has officially cancelled RuneScape: Reignited less than two weeks after its initial announcement, terminating the modern spin-off project following overwhelming community backlash regarding player base fragmentation and unwanted gameplay alterations. According to verified reports from Eurogamer, executive leadership recognized immediate friction after unveiling the title, receiving an unprecedented volume of critical feedback from long-term subscribers. Players feared the alternate project would cannibalize engineering resources from Old School RuneScape (OSRS) and RuneScape 3. Jagex confirmed that continuing development would run contrary to community sentiment, prompting an immediate shutdown of the initiative rather than pursuing a protracted pre-production cycle. This decisive move mirrors major industry shifts toward community-first preservation observed across coverage in the [Galaxies Showcase 2026: Top 11 Game Announcements [Confirmed]](/news/galaxies-showcase-2026-top-game-announcements). Developers previously assigned to the cancelled title are being redeployed directly into core MMORPG teams to support upcoming technical roadmap milestones, graphical upgrades, and scheduled seasonal content across existing live servers.
