Pokémon GO PEGI 16 Age Rating: [Confirmed Update 2026]

According to verified reports from Game Rant published in February 2026, Niantic’s global phenomenon Pokémon GO has officially transitioned from a family-friendly PEGI 7 to a restrictive PEGI 16 age rating due to paid random items. This unexpected regulatory leap marks a monumental turning point for a franchise that has spent nearly three decades cultivating an accessible, all-ages demographic across the globe. European ratings boards enforced the reclassification over mounting regulatory concerns regarding incubator mechanics, raid passes, and randomized loot box features embedded in daily gameplay loops. While console titles like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet maintained traditional family-friendly ratings, mobile monetization models have finally triggered stringent legal scrutiny across international jurisdictions. Industry analysts note that this pivotal policy shift could compel mobile developers worldwide to fundamentally restructure microtransaction systems, separating cosmetic direct purchases from randomized gacha mechanisms to protect younger userbases from predatory monetization.
