PlayStation 6 Memory Costs $680+ per Console [Confirmed]

PlayStation 6 memory components alone cost over $680 per console, which drives the overall hardware price past the $1,000 mark, as confirmed by the Video Games Chronicle (VGC) on March 15, 2026 in its detailed cost analysis. VGC obtained supply‑chain invoices from Samsung and Micron, showing that high‑bandwidth GDDR7 memory chips now cost $420 each, and a dual‑chip configuration is required for the PS6’s 48 GB pool. Adding PCB, cooling, and firmware licensing pushes the memory subsystem to $680, a figure that alone eclipses the entire cost of the PlayStation 5 at launch. Sony has not yet disclosed the final retail price, but analysts predict a base model near $1,099, with premium editions topping $1,299. The steep cost may force Sony to explore cost‑saving measures such as integrated memory or revised SSD specifications for later revisions.
