People Playground Steam Workshop Disabled Malware Second Incident 2026 [2026 Update]

As originally reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, People Playground, the popular Steam sandbox title where players experiment with physics-based ragdoll torture scenarios, has had its Steam Workshop temporarily disabled following the discovery of a malicious mod peddling malware. The game's developer, Mestiez, confirmed the incident and issued an urgent advisory to the community, stating that anyone who launched the game with mods enabled on September 21st should immediately run comprehensive virus scans on their systems. Mestiez has also instructed all players to refrain from opening People Playground entirely until an official all-clear is announced. This represents the second malware-related incident involving the game in 2026, a pattern that has drawn significant attention from the indie gaming community and raised broader questions about the security of user-generated content on Steam Workshop. The developer has not yet disclosed the full extent of the compromise or how many users may have been affected, but the decision to disable the Workshop entirely signals the severity of the situation. As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks inherent in mod-dependent ecosystems, echoing broader concerns seen across other community-driven platforms where malicious actors exploit user trust.
