Nvidia RTX 5090 Cable Melt Crisis Hits Repair Shops [Confirmed]

According to verified reports from PC Gamer, a prominent Chinese PC repair specialist received seven melted Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 4090 graphics cards across just forty-eight hours after severe heat burned through their 12+4-pin power connectors. The technician, known on YouTube as Zhang the Computer Repairman, documented multiple flagship graphics cards suffering from catastrophic thermal damage at the interface socket. The casualty list includes aftermarket partner boards from Asus, MSI, and Gainward, alongside Nvidia's own flagship Founders Edition RTX 5090. In several documented instances, the 12+4-pin power cables melted entirely into the socket housing, forcing users to sever the wires directly before dispatching the damaged units for board-level repairs. The incident underscores persistent hardware vulnerabilities surrounding high-draw 12V-2x6 and 12VHPWR power standards when running uncapped modern titles. While mid-range builds running optimized profiles like [Shrek 2 Remastered PC Requirements: RTX 4060 Needed [Confirmed]](/news/shrek-2-remastered-pc-requirements) remain safe, enthusiasts drawing peak wattage on flagship hardware face severe thermal strain. Technicians confirmed that repairing the burned interfaces requires complete socket desoldering and board traces restoration, highlighting an urgent need for revised cable seating standards across enthusiast gaming communities.
