Nintendo Switch 2 Jailbreak: First Software Exploit [Confirmed]

Security researcher Sammy Hajhamid, known online as pepsipu, has released ns2jb, a groundbreaking software-only Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak that successfully executes user code on the console's latest 23.0.1 firmware by exploiting critical memory vulnerabilities within the SmileBASIC 4 runtime environment. According to verified reports from Android Authority, the exploit marks the first functional softmod achieved on Nintendo's flagship successor hardware without requiring physical modchips or micro-soldering. The vulnerability relies on userland code execution channeled through the application environment, allowing enthusiasts to boot unauthorized scripts and inject custom community modifications into title memories, as demonstrated in initial testing with Mario Kart World. While the exploit does not yet secure full kernel-level access or persistent custom firmware boot status upon power cycles, it provides an accessible pathway for homebrew development and system debugging. The release mirrors early breakthroughs seen in retro handheld emulation circles, similar to advances in the [Delta Emulator 2.0 iPhone Duo Nintendo DS Mode [Confirmed]](/news/delta-emulator-iphone-duo-nintendo-ds) ecosystem. Enthusiasts are cautioning that Nintendo is already preparing targeted firmware mitigations to patch the underlying runtime flaws before widespread community deployment destabilizes network validation servers.
