Mass Effect Petition Hits 200K After Studio Shutdown [Update 2026]

Following the sudden closure of BioWare and the reported cancellation of Mass Effect 5, nearly 200,000 community members have mobilized behind an unprecedented global petition urging publisher Electronic Arts to preserve the iconic sci-fi franchise and salvage its legacy. According to verified reports from GamesRadar, the community uprising gained immense momentum as original Commander Shepard voice actors Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale formally backed the grassroots campaign. The petition emphasizes that while Electronic Arts shifted corporate priorities, the deep lore, branching narratives, and intergalactic universe aboard the Normandy must not be abandoned to corporate limbo. Gaming communities across the globe have echoed this sentiment, drawing parallels to cross-entertainment revivals like the [Gundam Movie Netflix: Sydney Sweeney Sci-Fi Plot [Confirmed]](/news/gundam-movie-netflix-sydney-sweeney) adaptation where established sci-fi worlds found fresh life under new stewardships. With BioWare's storied history abruptly halted, signatures continue climbing toward the quarter-million milestone, pushing industry commentators to question how EA will handle licensing rights. Organizers clarify that rather than demanding BioWare's immediate reinstatement, the petition demands that EA greenlight third-party co-development or external studio licensing to complete Shepard's unfinished galaxy.
