League of Legends Classic Ending: Riot Retires Mode [Confirmed]

Riot Games has officially announced the permanent sunsetting of League of Legends Classic at the conclusion of the current season, removing the standalone nostalgia-driven experience just three months after its launch due to steep drop-offs in active player engagement across global matchmaking pools. According to verified reports from Eurogamer, the legacy game mode suffered from rapid player attrition once initial novelty subsided, mirroring industry trajectory shifts previously analyzed when [RuneScape Reignited Cancelled: Jagex Shelves Project [Confirmed]](/news/runescape-reignited-cancelled-jagex-update-767). While millions queued up during opening week to play unpatched champions on the retro Summoner's Rift map, telemetry revealed that participants overwhelmingly returned to standard ranked play, ARAM, and Teamfight Tactics. Maintaining two disparate server architectures, dual client branches, and distinct anti-cheat protocols imposed unsustainable technical overhead on Riot's development teams. Riot confirmed that preserving the sandbox mode indefinitely would dilute engineering resources required for mainline seasonal balancing, modern champion overhauls, and future engine enhancements. Consequently, the retro servers will shut down permanently, with Riot archiving the build for potential limited-time festival rotations.
