Overwatch: Jeff Kaplan Reveals Why He Quit Playing [Confirmed]

Former Overwatch game director and Blizzard vice president Jeff Kaplan has officially confirmed that he has not played Overwatch in five years, deliberately distancing himself from the live-service shooter following his April 2021 departure to prioritize his personal mental health. According to verified reports from Game Rant, Kaplan reflected on his prolonged absence from the franchise he helped create during an unannounced public interaction, underscoring the severe psychological toll associated with steering high-pressure live-service blockbusters. Kaplan served as the central public face of Overwatch development for nearly two decades at Blizzard Entertainment, also contributing foundational design to World of Warcraft. His candid revelation highlights the intense emotional weight creative directors shoulder amid live balance disputes, community toxicity, and relentless corporate roadmaps.
