Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan Avoids Game [Confirmed]

Overwatch founding director Jeff Kaplan revealed in April 2026 that he has completely stopped playing Blizzard's flagship hero shooter and avoids all online subreddits entirely to protect his mental health since departing the studio in April 2021. According to verified reports from IGN Articles, Kaplan explained his stance during a candid interview with GameSpot, noting that a clinical separation was necessary following his previous experiences with World of Warcraft development. Now focused full-time on founding his new independent studio and building an ambitious open-world action-survival game titled The Legend of California, Kaplan has permanently closed the chapter on his hero shooter legacy. Fans who fondly remember his relaxed developer updates and charismatic community presence may be surprised by his absolute detachment, but Kaplan emphasizes that shielding his psyche from toxic community feedback forums remains paramount. Industry analysts note that Kaplan's proactive boundary-setting serves as a masterclass in burnout prevention for high-profile game directors navigating intense online scrutiny in modern esports and gaming spaces.
