Jackbox Games Plagiarism Scandal [Confirmed]: Solo Dev Dispute

According to verified reports from Kotaku published in 2026, indie board game creator Sam Greszes has accused Jackbox Games of plagiarizing his tabletop project Die on this Hill to create their new release Debate and Switch. Greszes publicly detailed how studio representatives requested a comprehensive private demo of Die on this Hill, only to abruptly cut off all communication channels afterward. Exactly one year following this sudden radio silence, Jackbox Games announced and launched Debate and Switch, featuring mechanics, thematic elements, and core gameplay loops that Greszes argues were directly lifted from his proprietary design documents. Legal and industry analysts are closely monitoring the fallout, as indie developers increasingly rely on public exposure to combat intellectual property misappropriation by larger corporate entities. The controversy has ignited fierce debates across community forums, forcing major studios to reevaluate their pitch review pipelines and non-disclosure protocols to protect independent creators. Industry watchdogs emphasize that protecting solo creator rights is essential for maintaining a healthy, innovative gaming ecosystem where creative risks are rewarded rather than exploited by established publishing giants.
