IND vs NZ 2026: Ishan Kishan Ruled Out of 2nd T20I [Confirmed]

India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been officially ruled out of the second T20I against New Zealand on October 24, 2026, at Hagley Oval in Christchurch after suffering a severe muscle strain during Thursday's series-opening clash. According to verified reports from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical staff evaluated Kishan following the five-match series opener on October 22 and advised immediate rest to avoid aggravating the tear. In response, national selectors drafted aggressive Jharkhand and Gujarat Titans (GT) prodigy Kumar Kushagra into the touring party as immediate emergency cover. Kushagra's sudden promotion arrives off the back of stellar domestic performances and franchise camp preparation, giving the Men in Blue an attacking middle-overs cushion. While team management had originally structured Kishan as an aggressive pinch-hitter at the top of the order, Kushagra's arrival ensures tactical flexibility against New Zealand's swing-heavy pace battery. India enters Christchurch targeting a commanding series lead, with Kishan undergoing round-the-clock physical therapy to target a return before the third fixture.
