iPhone Duo Teardown [Teardown]: iFixit Reveals Screen Crack Causes

According to verified reports from Engadget published on October 26, 2026, iFixit’s teardown of the iPhone Duo has uncovered intricate folding display mechanisms and hinge guides that potentially explain user-reported screen cracks. The DIY repair authority revealed that Apple utilized a dual-action system with retractable curved guides and a center support bar to minimize crease visibility. Furthermore, Apple employed specially aligned oval pixels and a nano-texture coating to blur the fold point, visible only under powerful magnification. While iFixit praised the device as the most repairable folding smartphone to date, disassembly remains perilous for amateurs. The retractable guides and drop-down support bar create structural stress points under heavy daily folding cycles, directly contributing to display failures.
