IND vs NZ 2026: Karthik Backs Suryavanshi at No. 3 [Confirmed]

Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has officially endorsed team management's choice to slot teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi into the number three batting position for the 2026 New Zealand bilateral series rather than breaking up India's established opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. According to verified reporting from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, Karthik insisted that consistent batting units should never undergo disruptive reshuffles solely to accommodate debutants in their preferred positions. After securing their spots with aggressive performances, Samson and Sharma retain the initial fielding restrictions to maximize run rates. Suryavanshi, who broke domestic records as an aggressive top-order batter, was instead asked to show tactical maturity in the critical one-down anchor slot. Management’s bold choice was highlighted following the [IND vs NZ 2nd T20I 2026: Toss Result & Playing 11s [Confirmed]](/news/ind-vs-nz-2nd-t20i-lineups-pitch) reveal, where India showcased immense faith in squad depth. Karthik emphasized that elite international cricket demands positional flexibility, arguing that shifting an in-form opening pair risks destabilizing collective powerplay efficiency. By shielding the established core while testing youthful adaptability against spin variations in the middle overs, India balances immediate series victory objectives with long-term ICC tournament preparations.
