IND vs NZ 2026 Test Squad: 5 Major Stars Dropped [Confirmed]

India officially unveiled its sixteen-member squad on Friday, October 16, 2026, omitting five high-profile veterans from the 2020 touring roster, including premier seamer Mohammed Shami, ahead of the high-stakes two-Test series against New Zealand scheduled across Wellington and Christchurch. According to verified reports from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, the national selection committee made sweeping adjustments to balance red-ball workloads and fast-track emerging talent. While frontline strike bowler Jasprit Bumrah returns after taking scheduled rest during prior white-ball outings, Mohammed Shami was omitted alongside seasoned contributors from the previous New Zealand expedition. Bengal pacer Akash Deep secured his place following robust domestic performances, giving the pace department renewed dynamism alongside Mohammed Siraj. The tactical adjustments reflect long-term workload monitoring following fierce international engagements like [IND vs WI: Ishan Kishan Smashes 24-Run Over [Confirmed]](/news/ishan-kishan-24-run-over-2026). The squad travels to Wellington for the opening Test commencing November 19, before concluding the red-ball calendar at Christchurch on November 27. Cricket analysts highlight that transitioning away from senior seamers tests bench depth on seam-friendly surfaces, forcing team management to rely on younger pace reserves across crucial away conditions.
