IGN Podcast Layoffs: Fired Hosts Launch X Button [Confirmed]

In October 2026, following devastating restructuring layoffs at IGN, fired veteran hosts Brian Altano, Max Scoville, and peer creators launched an independent Patreon gaming network called X Button to preserve classic podcast formats. According to verified reports from Kotaku published on October 19, 2026, the newly formed independent network currently houses two premier shows: X Button, covering general gaming news and releases, and Ninfriendo 64, dedicated entirely to Nintendo culture. Prior to last month's corporate restructuring, Altano and Scoville cohosted IGN's weekly PlayStation show Beyond!, while Macy helmed the Nintendo-themed podcast NVC. Following the layoffs, Beyond! entered an indefinite hiatus, and NVC halted weekly publication, leaving Daemon Hatfield's Game Scoop as the sole regularly publishing flagship show. Industry observers compare this corporate media contraction to unexpected corporate pivots seen elsewhere, much like the structural shifts analyzed in the [Colts GM Chris Ballard Firing: Pat McAfee Analysis [Full Guide]](/news/colts-gm-chris-ballard-firing-analysis). The fired creators are inviting industry peers, developers, and voice actors onto their new Patreon-backed platform to deliver the uncompromised commentary fans lost.
