God of War Laufey: No Game in Collector Box [Confirmed]

Sony has officially unveiled the God of War Laufey Collector Box, confirming to gaming communities that the high-end premium merchandise package will not include a physical game disc or digital download voucher upon release, mirroring the controversial retail packaging decisions previously seen across blockbuster gaming rollouts. According to verified reports from Game Rant, this release follows escalating controversy over how major publishers handle collector editions. Industry observers note that this trend mimics concerns surrounding Rockstar Games, especially after recent discussions where the [GTA 6 Delay Caused by Horrifying NPC Counts [Confirmed]](/news/gta-6-npc-studio-delay) highlighted mounting production costs and shifting consumer expectations. Diehard God of War fans had anticipated a statuesque tribute containing full game access, yet Sony opted for an empty steelbook and physical lore artifacts. With game releases routinely testing consumer price tolerances in 2026, stripping software from collector bundles threatens traditional retail incentives. Gamers who previously purchased physical media for definitive ownership are now forced to pay double: once for physical memorabilia and again for standalone digital software. As Game Rant emphasized, normalizing gameless collector editions risks permanently disconnecting players from tangible media, transforming physical retail showcases into standalone novelty merchandising lines.
