Fortnite Servers Down: v42.40 Update Schedule [Confirmed]

Fortnite servers went offline globally at 4:00 AM ET on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as Epic Games initiated routine server maintenance to roll out the v42.40 content update across Battle Royale, Reload, and Horde Rush playlists. According to verified reports from TalkEsport, matchmaking queues were deactivated roughly thirty minutes prior to shutdown to ensure ongoing matches concluded cleanly. While Epic Games rarely issues exact return guarantees, historical deployment schedules indicate downtime will last between two and three hours, pointing to an estimated server relaunch between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM ET. Unexpected deployment hitches could extend this outage slightly. This release marks the final major content milestone for Chapter 7 Season 4 while unlocking the second wave of Fortnitemares 2026 festivities. Much like the cross-title seasonal events seen in the [PUBG Mobile La Liga Crossover: October 2026 [Confirmed]](/news/pubg-mobile-october-match-analysis-2026), Epic is refreshing the sandbox with spooky cosmetics, map POI atmospheric updates, and unvaulted limited-time items. Players on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms will be required to download the v42.40 patch client before logging back into matchmaking lobbies.
