Fallout Lore: Who Launched First Nuke Revealed [Confirmed]

Fallout co-creator Tim Cain definitively settled gaming's biggest 27-year mystery by confirming China launched the first nuclear strike in October 2077 after discovering rogue United States bio-weapon experiments involving the lethal Forced Evolutionary Virus. According to verified reports from Insider Gaming, Cain clarified the timeline during a wide-ranging retrospective on the post-apocalyptic franchise's foundational universe lore. For decades, players debated whether rogue automated defense systems, alien interference, or the sinister corporate conglomerate Vault-Tec triggered the catastrophic Great War. Cain revealed that China launched an preemptive strike upon discovering America was actively weaponizing the FEV program rather than researching purely defensive vaccines. This definitive confirmation dispels ambiguity stoked by recent adaptations and establishes immutable franchise canon ahead of future Bethesda productions. Similar to narrative masterstrokes dissected in our coverage of [Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5: Secret Witcher Crossover [Update 2026]](/news/cyberpunk-2077-update-25-witcher-content), definitive lore drops generate massive engagement waves across legacy communities. Cain noted that the tragedy stems from geopolitical desperation, emphasizing that both superpowers ultimately sealed humanity's doom through mutual escalation and unchecked technological militarization.
