Drunken Goddess Reflux Steam Demo Canceled Over AI [Confirmed]

Publisher Alliance Arts and developer Who You officially canceled the scheduled October 19 public Steam demo for Drunken Goddess Reflux, opting instead for closed playtests due to surging fears that automated generative AI scrapers would swiftly clone their distinct aesthetic and core gameplay loop. According to verified reports from IGN Articles, the Japanese indie studio issued a formal statement apologizing to players awaiting the public trial of the stylized anime title. Described as shot-glass Russian roulette featuring an obsessive underworld deity, the game combines psychological tension with turn-based drinking risk mechanics. While the project had enjoyed smooth development since its initial April reveal, the emergence of rapid code-ripping toolsets prompted immediate defensive action. Alliance Arts clarified that public builds provide bad actors uninhibited access to extract proprietary sprite work, voice files, and timing scripts. To protect their intellectual property ahead of the December launch, the team pivoted to an NDA-governed closed session for vetted applicants. Unlike commercial misfires cataloged in [Nintendo Switch: 8 Most Disappointing Games [Ranked]](/news/nintendo-switch-disappointing-games-ranked), this abrupt cancellation reflects structural IP safeguarding rather than internal production delays.
