DCU Batman & Flash: James Gunn Confirms Status [Update 2026]

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn officially confirmed the cinematic status of Batman and Flash on Threads, clarifying that while The Brave and the Bold script remains in development, canonical superhero debuts are tightly synchronized across Warner Bros. multimedia productions heading into the 2026 theatrical cycle. According to verified reports from Polygon, Gunn addressed fan inquiries regarding whether Batman would be cast before the screenplay is finished, firmly denying casting rumors until the narrative foundations are set. Gunn also clarified Flash lore, touching upon the status of Barry Allen versus Wally West within Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. This follows earlier studio updates, such as when [Supergirl DCU: James Gunn Debunks Milly Alcock Recast [Confirmed]](/news/supergirl-james-gunn-milly-alcock-confirmed) set the standard for transparent studio communications. Rather than rushing ensemble production schedules, DC Studios is prioritizing disciplined screenplay completion before initiating talent scouting or greenlighting studio-wide gaming integrations. Gunn reiterated that Batman will not appear in Matt Reeves' separate The Batman Part II universe, maintaining strict separation between DC Elseworlds and the core DCU continuity.
