Cyberpunk 2077 Movie: CDPR Confirms Original Story [Confirmed]

CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that the upcoming live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film will tell a completely original story set in Night City rather than delivering a direct, scene-by-scene adaptation of V and Johnny Silverhand's game campaign. According to verified reports from Rock Paper Shotgun, studio leadership emphasized that expanding the universe through fresh perspectives serves the franchise far better than retreading familiar branching quests. Following the massive critical acclaim of Studio Trigger's Cyberpunk Edgerunners, CD Projekt Red intends to bring cinematic audiences into new, unexamined criminal underworlds without constraining screenwriters to pre-existing dialogue wheels or established player outcomes. The cinematic project, announced alongside production powerhouse Anonymous Content, aligns with broader studio transmedia expansion, echoing industry anticipation seen in reports like [Red Dead Next Release By 2028 Possible [Update 2026]](/news/red-dead-release-date-2027-2028). Executive producers clarified that while Night City's iconic aesthetic, cyberware technology, and dystopian corporate warfare remain central pillars, the movie focuses on standalone protagonists navigating street-level survival. This narrative autonomy guarantees that seasoned players and newcomers encounter unpredictable drama rather than predictable cinematic retreads.
