Cyberpunk 2077 Movie: Not A Direct Game Adaptation [Confirmed]

According to verified reports from PC Gamer, CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has confirmed that the upcoming live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie partnership with Paramount Pictures will not be a direct adaptation of the game. Following the expiration of their previous contract with Anonymous Content and a stalled project with Paramount, CD Projekt Red decided to reset the live-action project under a brand-new formula. Instead of translating V’s digital journey or Johnny Silverhand’s exact narrative arc frame-by-frame onto the silver screen, developers intend to forge a completely fresh narrative set within the sprawling, neon-soaked dystopia of Night City. This strategic evolution mirrors successful transmedia expansions like Edgerunners, ensuring that long-time fans and cinematic audiences experience uncharted territory rather than a predictable retelling. Industry analysts note that partnering with Paramount Pictures provides the blockbuster production scale necessary to capture the vertical architecture, corporate corruption, and high-tech augmentations defining the cyberpunk genre. Production timelines remain fluid as creative brainstorming continues at the studio.
