Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Dog Intro [Confirmed]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's newly launched DMZ extraction mode features a surprisingly brutal and emotionally heavy introductory tutorial where players must abandon an injured military dog named Rex after a fierce firefight, according to verified reporting from Kotaku published on October 21, 2026. Following the initial drop-in alongside Rex, players are ambushed by North Korean soldiers guarding a crashed drone's black box data. While Rex successfully neutralizes the enemy combatants, he sustains a severe gunshot wound during the skirmish. The player character checks on the wounded animal before dragging his body under a bush for safe extraction later—an extraction that never occurs, as the player is captured and executed minutes later. Journalist Zack Zwiezen highlighted the peculiar nature of this sequence, questioning why developer decisions integrated such a grim narrative beat when companion dog mechanics remain largely locked or unverified in the broader live-server progression loops currently accessible to the community. As players explore the extraction landscape, discussions surrounding companion utility, unlock criteria, and narrative dissonance dominate competitive discords.
