The Witcher: CD Projekt Honors BioWare Legacy [Confirmed]

CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski officially paid tribute to BioWare on March 3, 2026, confirming the veteran studio's foundational contribution of the Aurora Engine and critical E3 promotional support that originally allowed the Polish developer to launch The Witcher in 2007. According to verified reports from PC Gamer, CD Projekt's meteoric rise into global RPG dominance originated from a crucial collaboration with BioWare and publisher Interplay during the late 1990s and early 2000s. CD Projekt initially handled Polish localization for Baldur's Gate before pitching their own dark fantasy title based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. Recognizing CDPR's ambition, BioWare licensed its proprietary Aurora Engine—previously used for Neverwinter Nights—and even surrendered half of their own E3 exhibition floor space to showcase the fledgling project to western press. The tribute highlights an era of collaborative studio generosity rarely seen in today's hyper-corporate gaming landscape. Similar nostalgic reverence continues across classic franchises, such as fan efforts highlighting the [Fable 2 Remaster: Demand Xbox Series & PC Release [Confirmed]](/news/fable-2-remaster-anniversary). Nowakowski stressed that without BioWare's technical infrastructure and promotional generosity, Geralt of Rivia's multi-million-copy empire would have struggled to secure western distribution.
