Bhuvneshwar Kumar Jersey 78: NZ vs IND Return [Confirmed]

Indian veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar revealed he selected jersey No. 78 for his national team comeback ahead of the second T20I against New Zealand on October 24, 2026, in Christchurch after discovering his preferred previous number was already occupied. According to verified reports from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, the 36-year-old seamer explained in an official BCCI video release that his traditional jersey No. 15 was unavailable upon his squad reintegration. Rather than settling for an unfamiliar digit without personal significance, Kumar worked through numerological calculations and personal milestones to land on 78, cementing a fresh identity for this critical white-ball assignment.

This strategic veteran inclusion directly aligns with recent tactical adjustments highlighted in the [IND vs NZ 2026: India Playing 11 Changes Revealed [Confirmed]](/news/ind-vs-nz-2026-playing-11-changes), where the team management prioritized swing control and early breakthroughs over outright express pace. Following earlier depth tests seen during the [India A vs New Zealand A: Simon Keene 5/24 Collapse [Confirmed]](/news/india-a-new-zealand-a-collapse-226), Kumar's return provides vital experience under overcast conditions. His presence gives captain Rohit Sharma and the bowling coaches a reliable death-overs anchor capable of executing yorkers and subtle knuckleballs against New Zealand's aggressive middle order in Christchurch.
