Asus ROG Rapture GT-BN98: First Wi-Fi 8 Router Tested [Review]

Asus has officially released the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro gaming router, establishing the hardware market's very first consumer-ready Wi-Fi 8 networking unit designed to eliminate latency spikes for competitive esports players well before the standard's projected 2028 IEEE formal ratification. According to verified reports from PC Gamer, the flagship hardware commands a steep £789.99 retail price tag, following the brand's previous record-breaking ROG Rapture GT-BE19000AI Wi-Fi 7 milestone. Although client devices compatible with 802.11bn protocol remain absent from the retail pipeline, the GT-BN98 delivers exceptional multi-band standalone throughput alongside cutting-edge traffic management algorithms. In real-world performance benchmarks, the unit demonstrates unmatched range stability, outlasting standard dual-band hardware during high-bandwidth loads. While raw close-range wireless transfers closely mirror mature Wi-Fi 7 units, Asus incorporates targeted enterprise gaming channels to preemptively insulate tournament lobbies from jitter. As the developer space explores tech events like the [Epic Games AI MegaJam Contest: $50k Unreal Engine Event [Confirmed]](/news/epic-games-ai-megajam-contest), consumer network infrastructure is rapidly evolving to service cloud-streamed esports and bandwidth-heavy competitive ecosystems.
