Arch Manning Bench Calls: Finebaum Urges Texas Switch [Confirmed]

Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Arch Manning faces intense benching demands after ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum publicly urged head coach Steve Sarkisian to pull the sophomore passer following an erratic, turnover-laden Week 7 loss against Florida in Gainesville. According to verified reports from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, Finebaum argued during his national broadcast that sitting Manning could spark necessary mental resets while allowing backup playmakers to stabilize the huddle. The commentary mirrors growing community debates after [Arch Manning Benched: Texas Increases Reps for KJ Lacey [Confirmed]](/news/arch-manning-texas-qb-benched-update) highlighted backup depth shifts in Austin. Manning struggled through multiple stalled drives, misread zone coverages, and displayed uncharacteristic pocket hesitation that derailed Texas's momentum in critical red-zone sequences. Despite immense preseason hype and record-setting NIL visibility, Manning's inability to exploit blitz-heavy packages has created friction among alumni and national analysts alike. Sarkisian maintains public confidence in Manning's ceiling, yet internal evaluations indicate that continued mechanical breakdowns could force immediate schematic adjustments before upcoming conference matchups. Finebaum emphasized that elite programs cannot sacrifice championship qualification windows merely to protect high-profile individual legacies amid escalating high-stakes competition.
