Apple Presto Tech: Unopened iPhone Diagnostics [Confirmed]

Apple is officially expanding its proprietary Presto retail system to execute contactless hardware diagnostics on returned iPhones without opening their original sealed packaging, curbing retail theft and eliminating unnecessary warehouse restocking delays across official retail locations worldwide. According to verified reports from Engadget, Apple retail locations will repurpose the specialized Presto machines—originally engineered to wirelessly update iOS firmware on boxed devices prior to customer handover—to scan returned inventory. Under current retail operations, store employees must manually break factory box seals to confirm that internal serial numbers match and that high-value silicon, cameras, and batteries have not been replaced by counterfeit dummy parts. Once unsealed, fully operational devices cannot be sold as new, forcing stores to ship units back to regional distribution warehouses for costly repackaging. By broadcasting wireless diagnostics directly through retail boxes, the Presto apparatus authenticates internal components instantaneously. This initiative aligns with Apple's push toward streamlined device servicing, following earlier ecosystem enhancements outlined in our analysis of the [Apple iPad Mini OLED 8.5-Inch: Specs & Price [Confirmed]](/news/apple-ipad-mini-oled-release-specs).
